A Path of Contemplation, Conversion, and Commitment

The Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Office invites you to reflect on the daily readings during this Advent Seasson. For some this may be a spring board for meditation, for others a source of insight and for others the beginning or renewal of a mystical relationship with our God. However the Spirit leads you, may you experience peace

1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
Matthew 25:14-30
"Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy."

The talents can be seen as the many graces God gives us. How do I share these graces so as to grow in the love of God?

Monday November 14

1 Maccabees 1:10-15, 41-43, 54-57, 62-63
Luke 18:35-43
"’What do you want me to do for you?’ He replied, 'Lord, please let me see'" (Luke 18)

Tuesday November 15

2 Maccabees 6:18-31
Luke 19:1-10
"For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost." (Luke 19)

Help me to free myself of persistent thoughts and actions that prevent me from giving myself whole-heartedly as Zacchaeus did.

Wednesday November 16

2 Maccabees 7:1, 20-31
Luke 19:11-28
"The Creator of the universe… will give you back both breath and life, because you now disregard yourselves for the sake of his law."
(2 Maccabees 7)

In what ways do I express my trust in the Creator?

Thursday November 17

1 Maccabees 2:15-29
Luke 19:41-44

"If this day you only knew what makes for peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes." (Luke 19)

In this Gospel reading Jesus sits and weeps over the city of Jerusalem for their failure to listen to him. Why don't we listen?

Friday November 18

1 Maccabees 4:36-37, 52-59
Luke 19:45-48

“… the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death, but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words.”
(Luke 19)

Do I ever find myself “hanging on someone’s words”? What about the words of Scripture?
