A Path of Contemplation, Conversion, and Commitment

The Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Office invites you to reflect on the daily readings during this Advent Seasson. For some this may be a spring board for meditation, for others a source of insight and for others the beginning or renewal of a mystical relationship with our God. However the Spirit leads you, may you experience peace

Sunday October 16

Isaiah 45:1, 4-6
1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b
Matthew 22:15-21

"We give thanks to God always for all of you, … knowing, brothers and sisters loved by God, how you were chosen. For our gospel did not come to you in word alone, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit..." (1 Thessalonians 1)

Help me to see with St. Paul that even the power of Caesar has its beginning with the Holy Spirit.

Monday October 17

Romans 4:20 - 25
Luke 12:13-21

"Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself, but is not rich in what matters to God."
(Luke 12)

How rich am I in the things that matter to God?

Tuesday October 18 St. Luke

2 Timothy 4:10-17b
Luke 10:1-9
"At my first defense no one appeared on my behalf, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them"
(2 Timothy 4)

Have I ever felt that others have let me down when I depended on them? Have I been able to forgive? And what about the time when I have deserted others?

Wednesday October 19

Romans 6:12-18
Luke 12:39-48
“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much..."
(Luke 12)

How appreciative am I of the talents God has given me? How do I use them in ways that protect and enhance God’s creation?

Thursday October 20

Romans 6:19-23
Luke 12:49-53
"I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!" (Luke)

What would the world be like if the fire of the love of Jesus were ignited in all our hearts? How do my actions help to bring this about?

Friday October 21

Romans 7:18-25a
Luke 12:54-59
"For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want."
(Romans 7)

I can identify with the human condition as so eloquently named by Paul. Does this in any way help me to refrain from judging others when they fall short? Or do I pass on small-minded gossip about them?

Saturday October 22

Romans 8:1-11
Luke 13:1-9

“For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed you from the law of sin and death.”
(Romans 8)
