A Path of Contemplation, Conversion, and Commitment

The Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Office invites you to reflect on the daily readings during this Advent Seasson. For some this may be a spring board for meditation, for others a source of insight and for others the beginning or renewal of a mystical relationship with our God. However the Spirit leads you, may you experience peace

Sunday October 23rd

Sunday October 23

Exodus 22:20-26

Matthew 22:34-40
"You know what sort of people we were among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord."
(1 Thessalonians 1)

Help me, too, to understand the Word as the disciples did and so spread the message of Jesus today. Return to top

Monday October 24

Romans 8:12-17
Luke 13:10-17

"Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it out for watering?"
(Luke 13)

When I am confronted with such an occasion, do I speak the truth or do I go along with what the crowd might be saying?

Tuesday October 25

Romans 8:18-25
Luke 13:18-21
"I consider that the sufferings of this present time as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us."
(Romans 8)

Jesus used the parable of the mustard seed to explain how different the Reign of God is compared to our expectations. Am I able to see my suffering or disappointment in light of God’s glory?

Wednesday October 26

Romans 8:26-30
Luke 13:22-30

"Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough."
(Luke 13)

Help me to believe and live that "all things work for good for those who love God."

Thursday October 27

Romans 8:31b-39
Luke 13:31-35

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, … nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8)

Help me to realize that it is only my own unwillingness that can prevent me from growing in the love of God.

Friday October 28

Ephesians 2:19-22
Luke 6:12-16
"You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God."
(Ephesians 2)

Help me to imagine how proud and happy the new converts must have felt as they were welcomed into the Christian community! In what ways do I offer that welcome to others?

Saturday October 29

Romans 11:1-2a, 11-12, 25-29
Luke 14:1, 7-11

"Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, 'My friend, move up to a higher position.’"
(Luke 14)

Have I ever been embarrassed by thinking I was more important than another and finding out otherwise? Were do I show humility in my life?
