A Path of Contemplation, Conversion, and Commitment

The Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation Office invites you to reflect on the daily readings during this Advent Seasson. For some this may be a spring board for meditation, for others a source of insight and for others the beginning or renewal of a mystical relationship with our God. However the Spirit leads you, may you experience peace

Philippians 4:6-9
Matthew 21:33-43
"Have no anxiety, at all, but in everything, by prayers and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God."
(Philippians 4)

How aware am I of God’s presence with me as I go through the day? Does that awareness help me to be less anxious?

Monday October 3

Jonah 1:1 – 2:2, 11
Luke 10:25-37
"Which of these three, in your opinion. was neighbor to the robbers' victim?" (Luke 10)

Spend a few moments reflecting on how the Samaritan treated the victim. Does it help me to consider how my choices may affect the lives of others?

Tuesday October 4 St. Francis of Assisi

Jonah 3:1-10
Luke 10:38-42
“When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.” (Jonah 3)

Help all of us who follow in the footsteps of Saint Francis to become faithful disciples of Christ in joy and in sorrow.

Wednesday October 5

Jonah 4:1-11
Luke 11:1-4
"Jonah … built himself a hut and waited under it in the shade, to see what would happen to the city."
(Jonah 4)

Jonah was angry and disappointed that God showed mercy to the people rather than punishing them. Do I ever feel that others are treated too mercifully?

Luke 11:5-13

"And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

When I pray is it to tell what I want God to do? What about listening to what God has decided to do with me?Return to top

Joel 1:13-15; 2:1-2
Luke 11:15-26
“”Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven.”
