We, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi work in varied areas of ministry using the gifts and talents given to us by God. We put our skills to use as pastoral ministers, teachers at various educational levels, social workers, medical professionals, interpreters, administrators, musicians, and other ministries. Many of our 'retired Sisters' volunteer their time in a vast array of settings. All of us, particularly our sick and elderly, participate in a 'ministry of prayer,' holding before God the needs of the world. In large and small ways we continue to be present with those in need. Through example we preach the Gospel message of love.
"Sponsorship" defines the relationship of our community to our service organizations. These corporate ministries, now separately incorporated, continue the ministry originally founded and fostered by us. Sponsorship implies a public identification with the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and our commitment to these corporate ministries and their missions. A mutual sense of responsibility and bonding exists between us.
Following the U.S. Bishops' mandate to all Catholics to work for justice and peace, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi continue to work as agents of long-term social change. The congregation's involvement in social justice and peace reflects the way St. Francis himself sought to bring about peace. Like Francis, we believe in nonviolence and preach by example. We continue to educate ourselves and others to be politically aware, socially active citizens, who work together to create a more just global society.
Our combined commitment gives us the ability to create a better world for the people in our neighborhoods, communities and around the globe. Together, we can make a difference that singly would not be possible. Whether it's being and working with children or adults, protesting for peace, or working in one of our Corporate Ministries, we are making a difference every day. We are "Women of faith touching a world in need."
