On Sunday, September 24, Kathy Nitka (center) made her first commitment as an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. Kathy was surrounded by many sisters, associates, family members and friends during the celebration at Clare Hall. Sr. Wendelin Rose and Sr. Coletta Dunn (pictured at right) were sponsors for Kathy, although in some respects, Kathy considers all the Clare Hall sisters as her support during her experience of integration and orientation as an associate. Sr. Diana De Bruin (at left) presided for the commitment ceremony for Kathy, who has been a very loyal OSF employee for 25 years. During those years, Kathy has absorbed well the charism and mission, and tries to live that in her own life.
Her commitment statement reads, in part: “I desire to deepen my faith life by sharing in the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare … by living in the spirit of the prayer of St. Francis – being an instrument of peace, compassion and kindness towards all creation, family, friends, co-workers and to those I encounter daily.” The Office of Associate Relationship stated: “We warmly welcome Kathy as an associate and thank our gracious God for the ways Kathy lives out our mission and charism.”
