March 14 is National Pi Day to celebrate the mathematical constant Pi, represented by the Greek letter π, because the first three digits are 3.14, just like date. That one symbol represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. March 14 is also Albert Einstein’s birthday.
In recognition of the day, sisters and staff were invited to a “pie” contest. Any type of pie was eligible, from pizza pies to fruit pies, and everything in between.
The winner of the Pi Day contest was Kristin Jensen, RN, with her Peanut Butter Oreo Pie. Coming in a close second, was Sr. KD Strandell with Lemon Meringue Pie. Third place went to Sr. Kathy Cairns with her Cheeseburger Pizza Pie. There were 8 entries in all, and they were a mix of sweet and savory pies. The contest was well attended, and received good feedback from those present.
The winning Pi pies are pictured here.
